Since 2014, I have been using two setups I developed while working closely with the CNCM-gnem (National Center for Musical Creation) : Idiosyncrasie and Blank Memory. They’re made up of one touch screen tablet and one laptop. The first one was conceived as an enhanced version of the 3Kpad ∞, which I put together in 2000.
Idiosyncrasie uses sound sources that come from the real world in real time from feeds available on the Internet. Much of these sound sources are available for free through an online platform entitled soundmap, which was conceived as a research project at Locus Sonus, an audio arts lab in Aix-en-Provence, France.
Initially, the kind of musique concrète I did developed sound materials recorded on different media (magnetic tapes, vinyl, CDs, music files, etc.). The re-use of these sound materials was pushed all the way to entropy. This approach stemmed from a desire to use the medium to its fullest potential.
